Tessellations
Tessellations
A two player online tile placing game. Made in the style of games like Carcassonne and Cascadia. Navigate each matches unique ruleset, and earn more points than your opponent.
This is a two player game! You can play against a very dumb bot (or anyone else who might be online) by clicking "Join Next Game".
You can also create a room and play against a friend (recommended).
Theme Note: Count Down
My initial idea was to create a card playing game with a ever decreasing hand size. This game maybe doesn't fit the theme amazingly, but I think it fits fine in two ways.
- Your hand size decreases every turn until the game ends. You are "counting down" the remaining tiles as you play them.
- There is a strict time limit for your turn.
Instructions
Get ready to tesselate!
Tesselations is a fast paced two player online competitive tile placing game. You have until your hand runs out to place tiles and score more points than your opponent.
Rounds
Place tiles simultaneously alongside your opponent in any empty board space. If you run out of time for that round a random tile will be chosen from your hand and placed for you. After each round you and your opponent will swap hands.
You may freely move your placed tile or place a different tile until your time runs out.
You may rotate a tile by clicking on the tile after placing it.
Scoring
Each match features a random set of scoring rules, be sure to read them carefully before starting each game.
Many scoring rules only score points according to your assigned color. Be sure to pay attention to your color before the match begins.
Tile Merging
Finally beware of tile merging. If you and your opponent place a tile in the same board space on a given round your tiles will be combined into one new tile. Any edges with different colors between your two tiles will be grayed out and will not score. Matching edges of the same color will remain.
Tile merging can be a powerfull way to prevent your opponent from scoring if you think you might know where they are going to play.
Bugs and Oddities:
- If your opponent leaves mid-match the computer will continue to play random moves on their behalf.
- Unfinished/unpolished ui screens throughout.
- I think there are a few scoring bugs.
- No animation to display tile merging.
- No animation to display opponent tile placement, it just pops into existence.
- No music / sfx.
